Fightville does for MMA what Long Gone did for Major League Baseball (MLB). Specifically, it humanizes -- rather than glorifies -- the controlled violence that has been known to provide both meaning and purpose to the lives of oft-troubled youth. It should come as no surprise then, to learn that filmmakers Michael Tucker and Petra Epperlein have embraced the tagline, "We build better men."

The brutal truths about success or failure in the sport are immediately brought to the forefront by their trainer, UFC veteran Tim Credeur, who notes that the current MMA movement represents the natural evolution of martial arts. After years of outrageous claims from practitioners of various disciplines, MMA has managed to separate the legitimate from the pretenders.

Thor, Captain America, Iron Man, and the Incredible Hulk have been forced to put aside their differences and work together to defeat the devastating (and educated) tag-team of Dr. Doom and Dr. Octopus, who are attempting to take over my mother’s kitchen – a strategic move that will no doubt leave scuff marks on the linoleum floor.

There’s a brief electrical storm in the kitchen and I emerge from a ball of light. Six-year-old Adam asks the obvious question, “Are you from the future?” to which I reply, “Yes. Before you freak out, they make more Star Wars movies – but they suck. Let’s not talk about it.”

“The reason I’m here is to prepare you. I’ve taken a great risk in coming back, but you must stay alive to see the year 2012 – for 22 years from now, you will visit a movie theater and see all of your favorite superheroes in one movie, teaming up to fight the forces of evil!”

Six-year-old Adam Frazier instantly explodes into a chaotic whirlwind of tears, confetti, and tattered shreds of blood-soaked Ninja Turtles pajamas, causing 27-year-old Famous Monster to fade away from existence Back to the Future style. That’s the power of nostalgia – the power of childhood – and ultimately, the power of The Avenger.

Ted Wiggins (Zac Efron), an idealistic 12-year-old boy, lives in "Thneed-Ville", a walled city that, aside from the citizens, is completely, perfectly, artificial: everything is made of plastic, metal, or synthetics. Ted sets out to find the one thing that will win him the affection of Audrey (Taylor Swift), the girl of his dreams, who wishes to see a real tree. Ted's energetic grandmother (Betty White) suggests he speak with the Once-ler (Ed Helms) on the matter, and he discovers that their city has been closed off from the outside world, which is a contaminated and empty wasteland. The Once-ler agrees to tell Ted about the trees if he listens to his story over multiple visits. Ted agrees, even after the mayor of Thneed-Ville, Aloysius O'Hare (Rob Riggle), who is also the greedy proprietor of a bottled oxygen company, confronts the boy and pressures him to stay in town. Over the course of the movie, Ted, with the encouragement of his grandmother, continues to sneak out of O'Hare's sight and learns more of the history of the trees.Parents need to know that this animated adaptation of Dr. Seuss' beloved tale of THE LORAX is age-appropriate for younger kids; there's little scary stuff, and the pro-environmental message is a positive one. The main issue here is really the movie's huge number of consumerist tie-ins -- at least 70 different marketing promotions. For an anti-materialism story to advertise so many products to kids and their parents sends a particularly confusing message. Still, the movie itself -- like the original story -- promotes conservation and protecting the environment.
